RTA Bus Involved in Accident Near Temecula
RIVERSIDE, CA — August 10, 2011 — A Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) express bus carrying five passengers was involved in an accident this morning on southbound Interstate 15 near the Winchester Road exit in Temecula.
The accident occurred at 7:50 a.m. and involved four other vehicles. It resulted in injuries to the coach operator and passengers who were onboard the bus. All were transported to area hospitals. The driver of another vehicle was also transported to an area hospital, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The RTA bus involved in the accident was from CommuterLink express Route 208, which travels from Temecula to Riverside. The route is operated by RTA's contracted service provider, Empire Transportation.
California Highway Patrol officials are investigating the cause of the accident, which closed three of the five traffic lanes. By 10:30 a.m., the bus had been towed and all freeway lanes were open.
As part of the investigation, RTA is working with the CHP and reviewing video footage taken from the bus.
