The following actions were taken during the RTA Board of Directors' monthly meeting on November 20, 2008:
Financial Audit Yields Positive Results
An independent accounting firm that audited RTA's financial activities for Fiscal Year 2008 has concluded that the Agency is making efficient use of its funds and following proper accounting procedures. It also determined that RTA not only met but exceeded the state’s minimum farebox ratio.
Ridership Hits Record for Second Consecutive Month
The Riverside Transit Agency experienced its second consecutive month of record ridership during October and is on pace to reach eight million boardings for the year, which would be the most in the Agency's 31-year history. Board members received a report showing RTA buses recording an all-time high of 817,000 boardings in October, a 24 percent increase compared to October of last year. Ridership on CommuterLink express routes was up 70 percent from a year ago and Dial-A-Ride boardings climbed 25 percent.
City of Menifee Joins RTA Governing Board
A representative from the newly incorporated City of Menifee has joined the RTA Board of Directors. Board members welcomed Menifee Mayor Wallace Edgerton as the city's representative on the Board. Mayor Pro Tem Darcy Kuency will serve as alternative representative. RTA's Governing Board is now comprised of 19 elected officials from 15 cities and four members of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.
Downtown Riverside Trolley Route Gets Upgraded
RTA's downtown trolley will travel to more destinations and offer more service to commuters and the lunch crowd following a Board approval of the trolley's new routing and hours of operation. The Trolley, or Route 52 Red Line, will provide new service to the Riverside Unified School District Offices, the Press-Enterprise, the downtown Riverside bus terminal and the Riverside Chamber of Commerce. The trolley's new hours, effective Jan. 11, are 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. for peak routing and 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for lunch routing. Fares will remain at 25 cents for adults and youth and 10 cents for senior and disabled customers. City of Riverside and customers with a valid parking receipt for that day will continue to ride for free.
The next Board meeting will be held on Thursday, December 18 at 2 p.m.
