PUBLIC INVITED TO JOIN NEW T-NOW CHAPTER IN SOUTHWEST AREA
Group dedicated to promoting public transportation

RIVERSIDE, CA — July 20, 2010 — A grassroots group dedicated to advancing public transportation in Riverside County just got bigger, and now folks in Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Wildomar and Canyon Lake can be part of the movement.

Thanks to the recent opening of a new Transportation NOW chapter in Southwest Riverside County, it’s easier than ever to get involved in an issue that affects everyone living in this region.

For nearly two decades, Transportation NOW members have been advocates and supporters of public bus and train travel in Riverside County. Members are committed to improving access to vital resources, enhancing community mobility, educating senior citizens and students about public transit, and ensuring that state and federal funding for public transit remains a priority.

The new Southwest group brings to five the number of Transportation NOW chapters, including those in Corona/ Norco/District 2, Greater Riverside, Moreno Valley/Perris and the San Gorgonio Pass. The Southwest chapter meets at noon the fourth Wednesday of the month at Murrieta City Hall, 24601 Jefferson Ave. The next meeting is July 28.

“We are proud to offer membership to anyone eager to make a difference in their community,” said Canyon Lake Mayor Pro-Tem Barry Talbot, who is also a member of the Riverside Transit Agency Board of Directors and chairman of the Southwest Transportation NOW chapter. “With so many relevant transportation-related topics on the table, there’s never been a better time to join this important group.”
Members of the grassroots group --- ranging from elected officials to teachers to residents to everyday transit users --- are not only committed to addressing regional transportation issues but also meeting the needs of their individual communities.

“With growing concern over traffic, the increased cost of gas, and a desire to find alternative ways to get around, Transportation NOW is dedicated to making a positive contribution to our communities and enhancing our region’s quality of life,” said RTA Chairman of the Board Jeff Comerchero, who is also a member of the Southwest chapter.

The Corona/Norco/District 2 chapter meets the second Thursday of the month at 9 a.m. at Corona City Hall, 400 South Vicentia Ave.; the Greater Riverside Chapter meets the first Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. at Zacatecas Restaurant, 2472 University Ave.; the Moreno Valley/Perris chapter meets the third Thursday of the month, at 11:30 a.m. in the Moreno Valley City Hall Council Chambers. the San Gorgonio Pass chapter meets the first Thursday of each month at noon, at Beaumont City Hall, 1310 E 6th St. All meetings last one hour. More information is available at RiversideTransit.com.

The Riverside Transit Agency provides public transportation for Western Riverside County, operating 37 fixed routes, 8 commuter routes and Dial-A-Ride service.
