Riverside
Transit Agency Driver Takes Top
Honors at Regional Contest
Riverside
Transit Agency (RTA) bus driver
Ron Dickey knows how to make
a 14-ton public bus behave
like a Ferrari.
Dickey
proved it this weekend at the
Southern California Regional
Bus Roadeo in Irvine, where
he outperformed 14 other professional,
full time drivers who steered
their massive, 40-foot machines
around an obstacle course of
twists, turns, stops and tight
clearances.
The
competition brought together
the region’s best transit operators
in a showdown to test their
skill behind the wheel. Fifteen
drivers from across Southern
California were invited to the
event after winning their respective
local driving contests.
“For
one whole year, I’ve got bragging
rights and that feels pretty
good,” said Dickey who took
home three trophies: two for
himself and one for RTA.
No
stranger to victory, Dickey
has won the regional contest
twice and RTA’s annual Roadeo
three times. His most recent
victory at the regional contest
allows him to compete at the
International Bus Roadeo on
Sept. 23 and 24 in Dallas, TX.
The
Riverside Transit Agency provides
public transportation for Western
Riverside County, operating
38 fi xed routes, 5 commuter
routes and 15 demand response
services. RTA’s service area
spans 2,500 square miles, the
second largest in the nation.
