RIVERSIDE, CA — (January 28, 2008) — The Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) will
hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony this Wednesday in Banning to commemorate the launch
of CommuterLink Route 210, the Agency’s latest express route that serves the Pass Area, Moreno Valley and Riverside.
The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at the Banning Stagecoach Plaza, 3317 W. Ramsey Street. The public is invited to attend.
CommuterLink Route 210, RTA’s fifth such express route, links the communities of
Banning, Calimesa, Beaumont and Moreno Valley with downtown Riverside’s bus terminal and commuter trains. Launched in January, the express route is part of a larger effort that included upgrades to 26 bus routes — that’s nearly half of RTA’s total — including six routes that cater to commuters who rely on the bus to get around.
“Commuters have sent a clear message that they want a fast, comfortable and reliable way to get to work,” RTA Chairman Frank Kessler said. “We think they will be pleased with this new service.”
Trips from Banning to downtown Riverside take about 60 minutes. And trips from Moreno Valley to downtown Riverside are 20 minutes. In addition, any commuter headed to the Metrolink station and carrying a valid Metrolink pass rides for free.
Besides saving gas money, commuters can sleep, read and relax aboard the bus. And, in the near future, they will be able to watch television and check their e-mail thanks to free satellite television and wireless Internet service coming soon to all RTA express routes.
The Riverside Transit Agency provides public transportation for Western Riverside County, operating 39 fixed routes, 7 commuter routes and 15 demand response services. RTA’s service area spans 2,500 square miles, the second-largest in the nation.
