Transit Agency Using New Cleaner Engine
A cleaner-burning compressed natural gas engine will make its California debut under the hood of a Riverside Transit Agency bus, according to a release from the company selling the engines.
A ceremony Monday at the bus agency's headquarters in Riverside is planned to unveil the new engine, made by Doosan Infracore America.
The new engine will eventually run on a blend of hydrogen and natural gas, making it compliant with California Air Resources Board standards that take effect in 2010. Riverside Transit will be the first to use the engines solely on natural gas sometime next month, once the engine is certified for use in California. Foothill Transit in Los Angeles County will be the first to use the engine on the blended hydrogen-natural gas fuel.
