NEW OFFICERS ELECTED TO RTA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Canyon Lake’s Frank Kessler becomes new chairman, Corona’s Karen Spiegel and Temecula’s Jeff Comerchero are new vice chairs.

RIVERSIDE, CA — December 21, 2007 — The Riverside Transit Agency’s Board of Directors has unanimously elected Canyon Lake Councilmember Frank Kessler to take leadership of the 18-member governing board. As chairman, Kessler will be responsible for leading the RTA Board in setting policy, guiding Agency priorities, conducting the Agency’s monthly Board meetings and representing RTA during public events. He assumes the responsibilities held most recently by Norco Mayor Pro-Tem Frank Hall.

“I am pleased to be chosen by my fellow board members for this honor,” Kessler said. “I am proud of the accomplishments of this governing board and I look forward to being a part of its continued success.”

Board members also elected Councilmember Karen Spiegel of Corona as the new vice chair and Councilmember Jeff Comerchero of Temecula as the new second vice chair.
Chairman Kessler has served on the RTA Board since 2001. He is actively involved on various Agency committees and routinely participates in RTA’s lobbying efforts. His visit to Washington, D.C. last year helped RTA secure much-needed funding for the construction of the Riverside and Corona transit centers.

Departing Board Chairman Frank Hall said his experience on the board was positive, and marked by important events such as the launch of the popular “Beach Bus” in Temecula, the revival of the downtown Riverside trolley, as well as the creation of a free ride program for City of Riverside employees. During his tenure, the Agency also completed the Comprehensive Operational Analysis, which will be a guiding document for service upgrades for years to come.

“It was a pleasure to be a part of these exciting developments,” Hall said. “This Agency continues to serve more people, expand its influence and provide a truly important service for the people of Riverside County.”

The Riverside Transit Agency provides public transportation for Western Riverside County, operating 38 fixed routes, 5 commuter routes and 15 demand response services. RTA’s service area spans 2,500 square miles, the second-largest in the nation.
