“Beach Bus” will operate from June 18 until Sept. 2
RIVERSIDE, CA — June 15, 2007 — Grab your sunblock, put on your shades and flip-flops and climb aboard the Riverside Transit Agency’s (RTA) Beach Bus, which begins next week and will roll all summer long with express service from Southwest Riverside County to Oceanside.
Beginning Monday, RTA’s Route 202 will operate extended seven-day-a-week service, picking up passengers at the Murrieta Wal-Mart and Temecula Promenade Mall before heading to Oceanside. The $3.75 round-trip service, dubbed the Beach Bus, is a bargain for students on vacation, surfers, swimmers and sun worshippers looking for a convenient and stress-free way to the beach.
People enjoying the one-hour trip aboard the express buses will also be treated to free satellite television and wireless Internet.
“Getting to the beach has never been easier thanks to this new service,” said RTA Board Chairman Frank Hall. “Not only is the Beach Bus inexpensive, it also showcases some of the best technology you’ll find on any public bus.”
Passengers can take advantage of three midday round-trips on weekdays and four round-trips on weekends. On weekdays, buses depart as early as 8:50 a.m. from the Murrieta Wal-Mart and 8:59 a.m. from the Temecula Promenade Mall. Weekday buses return to the Temecula area as late as 4:24 p.m. On weekends, the earliest buses leave at 8:30 a.m. from Wal-Mart and 8:40 a.m. from the Promenade Mall. The final weekend bus departs Oceanside at 5:05 p.m. and arrives to the Temecula area around 6 p.m.
Carry-on items such as coolers and boogie boards must fit within the passenger’s seating space. Surfboards are permitted as long as they are no longer than six feet, enclosed in a bag, and can be positioned in front of the passenger while the bus is in motion.
“This is another great resource available to the residents of the Temecula Valley who are looking for exciting ways to spend their summer,” said RTA Board member and Temecula City Council member Jeff Comerchero.
The Riverside Transit Agency provides public transportation for Western Riverside County, operating 39 fixed routes, 5 commuter routes and 15 demand response services.
