BIGGER
BUSES, BETTER SERVICE COMING TO
COMMUTERS
Improved
Route 206 will coincide better
with Metrolink train schedules
Beginning
next week, Southwest Riverside
County bus riders can look forward
to bigger buses and a new schedule
that better coincides with Metrolink
train arrivals and departures.
Hoping
to meet a growing demand for bus
service in Temecula, Murrieta,
Lake Elsinore and Corona, the
Riverside Transit Agency (RTA)
will dispatch larger buses to
relieve the often-crowded medium-sized
buses that serve Route 206, which
travels along the Interstate 15
corridor between Temecula and
the North Main Corona Metrolink
Station.
The
Agency will also increase the
frequency by which Route 206 buses
travel along the corridor, and
better match time schedules with
those of Metrolink trains. In
short, passengers will spend less
time waiting for the bus and train
and more time actually getting
to their destinations.
“This
is great news for the people of
Southwest County who continue
to show a strong desire to use
public transit,” said RTA Board
Member and Temecula Mayor Ron
Roberts. “I look for ridership
on Metrolink to increase as a
result of the service that RTA
is providing.”
The
improvements, which begin Tuesday,
include an additional bus trip
in the morning that leaves the
Promenade Mall in Temecula at
5:33 a.m. A new afternoon trip
will depart the Corona train station
at 7:35 p.m. for southbound passengers
arriving on the last train of
the day. That bus will also wait
at the station for any delayed
trains, which means passengers
arriving late can still rely on
the bus to get home.
The
larger buses will provide extra
seating capacity for passengers
by running during the busiest
times of the day. Route 206 has
quickly become one of RTA’s fastest-growing
routes. In July, more than 3,000
people used the route, which is
a 68 percent increase from a year
ago.
“RTA
is pleased with the popularity
of this route, and we are excited
about the prospect of improving
the commute for multitudes of
passengers,” said RTA Board Member
and Lake Elsinore Councilman Daryl
Hickman. “These improvements are
the result of listening to its
passengers and responding to their
changing needs.”
The
Riverside Transit Agency provides
public transportation for Western
Riverside County, operating 38
•xed routes, 5 commuter routes
and 15 demand response services.
RTA’s service area spans 2,500
square miles, the second-largest
in the nation. For bus route and
