RTA
JOINS TRANSIT AGENCIES ACROSS
NATION FOR MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE
This
Memorial
Day, the Riverside Transit Agency
(RTA) will join transit agencies
across the nation to honor the
servicemen and women who answered
the call of duty and made the
ultimate sacri•ce for their country.
Hoping
to bring more awareness to the
holiday, RTA will participate
in the national Moment of Remembrance
by issuing public service announcements,
special messages on its website
and handing out Memorial Day stickers
to passengers.
The
act of national unity is designed
to bring more awareness to the
true meaning of Memorial Day.
A Gallup Poll revealed that less
than one in three Americans know
the meaning of the holiday, which
commemorates U.S. men and women
who died in military service for
their country.
“While
we’re enjoying ourselves, and
celebrating the start of summer,
let’s take a moment at 3 p.m.
on Memorial Day to pause and honor
those who defended our liberties
with their lives,” said Sandy
Bushue, deputy administrator of
the Federal Transit Administration.
“Let’s take a moment to ask ourselves,
what does our freedom mean to
us? What will we do to protect
it?”
RTA
Chairman Jeff Fox said the goal
of the national campaign is to
put the “Memorial” back in Memorial
Day.
“On
Memorial Day, we join with friends
and families to honor those brave
individuals who died in battle
to preserve America’s cherished
values,” said RTA Chairman Jeff
Fox. “RTA is proud to participate
in this special day.”
