Riverside
Transit Agency adds new talent
to administrative staff
The
Riverside Transit Agency (RTA)
announced today the appointment
of Augustus Ajawara as Planning
Director and Beverly Smith
as Controller.
Ajawara
will be responsible for managing
both long-range and short-term
planning functions, including
the acquisition of various grants
and the research of alternative
funding sources for RTA. He
will also assist in budget preparation,
evaluating bus route performance
and developing strategies to
improve service.
Smith’s
duties will include supervision
of the finance department,
including the agency’s computer
system, payroll, accounts payable
and accounts receivable. She
will also assist with budget
preparation, and analyze RTA’s
financial records and reports.
“Augustus
and Beverly have impressive
backgrounds,” said RTA Chairman
Jim Ayres. “I am pleased to
have them join our team. They
share RTA’s commitment to high-quality
public service.”
Before
joining RTA, Ajawara was founder
and president of OJI International
Consultants Inc., a Mission
Viejo-based firm specializing
in traffic engineering and
transit planning. Ajawara has
extensive experience in transportation,
serving as City Traffic Engineer
for the cities of Mission Viejo
and Westminister.
Before
coming to RTA, Smith worked
for American Pacific Forwarders,
an intermodal trucking company
in Chino, where she worked
as controller. She was controller
for an independent Pasadena
bookstore, and senior fianncial
analyst at Beckman Coulter,
a manufacturer of biomedical
testing instruments and supplies.
She was also the Assistant
Director of Accounting at McMullen
Argus Publishing in Placentia.
The
Riverside Transit Agency provides
public transportation for Western
Riverside County, operating
38 fixed routes, 5 commuter
routes and 15 demand response
services. RTA’s service area
spans 2,500 square miles, the
second largest in the nation.
