RTA
TO RECEIVE $1.3 MILLION FOR PERRIS
TRANSIT CENTER
The
Riverside Transit Agency (RTA)
announced Wednesday that it
has qualifi ed for $1.3 million
to help build a major transit
center in the City of Perris.
The
money is linked to the 2006
Transportation Enhancement Grant,
which earmarks more than $32
million for various transportation
upgrades across the Inland area.
RTA’s share of the federal money
will be set aside for aesthetic
enhancements to the transit
center, which is expected to
open in downtown Perris and
include both RTA bus and Metrolink
train service.
The
enhancements include customized
bus shelters, textured crosswalks,
pedestrian plazas and extensive
landscaping, all of which will
be designed around a central
theme. RTA Board Member and
Perris Councilman John Motte
applauded the news, saying the
new revenue will propel the
city’s revitalization efforts
in its historical downtown area.
“This
is great news not only for the
City of Perris, but also for
users of mass transit who will
greatly benefi t from this grant,”
Motte said. “RTA takes pride
in the fact that it is making
public transportation more convenient
and attractive to all riders.”
The
Riverside Transit Agency provides
public transportation for Western
Riverside County, operating
38 fi xed routes, 5 commuter
routes and 15 demand response
services. RTA’s service area
spans 2,500 square miles, the
second-largest in the nation.
